Some hospitals in Ho operating smoothly despite strike call

Response by doctors in the major public health facilities in Ho to the industrial action declared by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) starting Monday remains unclear.

Some patients who called at the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho on Monday told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they had been asked to return in two weeks as doctors were not available while others said they had consulted doctors.

Mr Fidel Leviel, Administrator at the Ho-Polyclinic said “for now things were going on well”.

“We don’t have doctors here anyway. The only one at the facility is on contract and obviously not part of the strike. The Medical Physicians at post are seeing patients and we have no problem,” he stated.

The usual heavy attendance at the Ho Municipal Hospital by patients on Mondays appeared on the low side when the GNA went round, but Mr Jasper Ansong, Hospital Administrator, said it was too early to make any pronouncements on how the doctor’s strike was affecting the hospital.
