Some 38 primary schools in Sekyere West receive grant

Mampong (Ash), Aug 1, GNA - The Government Accountability Improves Trust (GAIT - II) has disbursed 98 million cedis to 28 community schools in the Sekyere West District under its micro grants scheme that will last for three years.

Each school received 3.5 million cedis from the grant, supplemented by a community counterpart fund of one million cedis, to buy recreational, learning and teaching materials.

The beneficiary schools include; Kofiase D/A and SDA, Ankamadoa Roman Catholic, Birim D/A, Jeduako Methodists, Kyiremfaso Anglican, Apaah Presbyterian and Nsuase Islamic Primary schools. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the weekend, the District GAITs' Technical Assistant, Mr Thomas Mensah Boakye, said the education development micro grant formed an important part of the programmes' core objective of strengthening democracy, and decentralized governance.

He said to ensure the accountable and transparent use of the funds; GAIT had trained members of school management committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in the communities on their roles and responsibilities.
