Six die in accident at Sikaasem

Kumasi, Jan. 23, GNA - Six people died on the spot while nine others sustained injuries when a Mercedes Benz cargo truck which was travelling from Asankragua in the Western Region to Kumasi on January 18, burst a front tyre on reaching Sikaasem, a village on the Dunkwa-Obuasi road, veered off the road and crashed in the bush.

The dead, who included five men and a woman were yet to be identified and their bodies had been deposited at the Dunkwa Government Hospital.

Those who sustained various degrees of injuries including David Addai, the driver, were also rushed to the Dunkwa hospital for treatment.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Thursday about the incident, Police Inspector Yussif Mohammed Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Unit, said the vehicle was loaded with kola nuts and also carried 27 passengers.

He said on reaching Sikaasem at about 2200 hours, the vehicle burst its front tyre and the driver consequently lost control, leading to the crash.
