Seven new school blocks inaugurated in Gomoa West

Gomoa Fomena (C/R), Feb 21, GNA - The Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Mr Francis Kojo Arthur, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah and District Director of Education, Mrs Augusta Akyaa Sarpong, have inaugurated one rehabilitated school block and six new ones provided by the Assembly for some communities. The schools were a rehabilitated two-unit block for Apam Methodist Primary School whose roofing caved in and trapped 14 children in June last year.

The others were Gomoa Kokofu Islamic KG, Gomoa Maim Methodist Primary School, Ohua Debiso District Assembly Primary School, Gomoa Mankessim Methodist Primary School, Gomoa Fomena KG and Methodist Primary School. Mr Aidoo-Mensah said the government's policy to invest in the nation= 's human development was on course. He appealed to parents to compliment government efforts by making sure that children attended school to enjoy the numerous interventions it had pu= t in place to enhance quality education delivery. Mr Arthur said very soon the Assemblies would be tasked with the responsibility of getting children who were not enrolled in schools arrested.

He said apart from the children being punished, their parents would also be made to pay some fine for shirking their responsibilities towards their children. Mr Arthur said the new measure would be in line with the policy of Fre= e Compulsory Universal Basic Education which enjoins every Ghanaian to have a= t least basic education up to the Junior High School level. Mrs Sarpong commended the Assembly on its efforts to make education a topmost priority.
