Sergio Godoy is new Yara Ghana Managing Director

Ghana’s leading supplier of fertilizer, Yara, has announced the appointment of Mr Sergio Godoy as its new country Managing Director to oversee its operations.

Mr Godoy, who until his appointment was the Commercial Director of the company, takes over from Jorgen Arentz Rostrup, Yara Ghana said in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.

Before joiningYara Ghana, Mr Godoy served as the Commercial Director of Yara for Maghreb Region - Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia - until June 2013, where he was responsible for developing the company’s strategy and business in those countries.

He focused on building long-term relations with customers, aiming at improving farmer’s profitability on various crops.

Mr Godoy who joined Yara in 2003, prior to taking the position in Maghreb, held various positions within commercial and technical management, business development and agronomical advice in Spain.

His new appointment will see him manage the commercial and technical team on its approach to serve the farmer with value added fertilizer solution for their crops.

He will also be directly responsible for company’s supplies.

Commenting on his new appointment, Mr Godoy said: “Yara Ghana will still pursue its commitment to a sustainable future where we aim to create impact especially in the lives of farmers.

“We will continue creating value by delivering sustainable growth befitting customer and shareholders – as well as society at large.”

“We intend to create impact by engaging within three focal areas where we will be able to make a profound contribution: food security, resource management, and environmental issues.

“The three areas are intrinsically linked, and we are uniquely positioned to develop viable business solutions that address related global challenges,” he said.

Mr Godoy, who holds an MBA from the IE Business School, Spain, said with Yara’s support, farmers will be able to deliver on sustainable agriculture as well as the environment.

Yara’s fertilizers and crop nutrition programs, he said, will help smallholder farmer to produce the food required for the country’s growing population.

The company’s fertilizers, crop nutrition programs, and technologies, industry players say boost yields, improve product quality and reduce the environmental impact of agricultural practices.

Its industrial and environmental solutions improve air quality by reducing emissions from industry and transportation and serve as key ingredients in the production of a wide range of goods.

Founded in 1905 to solve emerging famine in Europe, today, Yara has a worldwide presence, with more than 12,000 employees and sales to more than 150 countries.

Yara Ghana was established in 2007 to strengthen the quality and depth of input supply and related services along agricultural value chains to increase the productivity of Ghanaian farmers.

The company imports high quality products for the cereal farmers as well as for the cocoa sector, operating in the ten regions of Ghana.
