Sekondi-Takoradi Rotary donates to communities

The Rotary Club of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region has supported the residents of Mpohor-Yabiw and Afropokrom in the Mpohor District with various items, as part of its humanitarian service.

The items included bed sheets, shoes, clothes, fans, hats and school bags to more than 200 inhabitants of the two communities.

The President of the Club, Rotarian Eugene Ofori-Atta, said the items were their widow’s mite to support people in the society who needed them most but could not afford them due to financial constraints.

He said the Club would soon organise a de-worming exercise for children under five years and support other adjoining communities with boreholes, health facilities, schools and other basic social amenities, to make life more meaningful to them.

A member of the Unit Committee in the town, Mr. Francis Enyam, on behalf of the two communities, expressed his gratitude to the club and requested for more support in view of the economic hardship prevailing there.

He appealed to the Club to support the communities with solar panels in view of the frequent power outages to enable pupils and students to study at night.

The Sekondi-Takoradi Club is a proud member of the Rotary International, whose purpose is to bring together businesses and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

It is a secular organisation open to all categories of people regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, or political preference.

There are 34,282 clubs and more than 1.2 million members worldwide.
