Sefwi Roads Closed To Traffic

Roads in the Juaboso-Bia district in the Western region have been rendered, muddy, unusable, (impassable), as a result of the recent rains.

The worst hit is the Asawinso-Benchema-barrier road.

According to our reports, vehicles plying that road cannot cross this section of the road, and passengers are compelled to alight at one end and waddle through the mud to another point to catch vehicles on the opposite side and continue their journeys.

This, accordingly, has affected movement of people and goods - cocoa, timber, foodstuffs, etc, in the area.

Economic activities in the area subsequently had come to a standstill, as drivers are capitalising on the situation to demand exorbitant fares.

As a result, MPs from the area - Hon. J.K.N. Ofori (Wiawso) Gyapong-Mensah (Juaboso) and M.C. Boampong (Bia), have petitioned the Minister of Roads and Transport, Dr. Richard Anane, to take prompt action to resolve the problem.

The Juaboso-Bia district alone handles about a third of the country’s cocoa output.
