Science Training Volunteers

40 Community Health Volunteers trained at Breman Asikuma

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Sept. 17 GNA - Forty Community Health Volunteers (CHV) in Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District at Breman Asikuma, have undergone a five-day capacity building training to enable them carry out effective education on healthy lifestyle. The Community Based Planning Services (CHIPS), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the auspices of the Ghana Population Council, in collaboration with Ghana Health Service organised the training. It was aimed at sensitizing the volunteers on various issues on health including ethical concerns to enable them better educate the communities in the district.

Topics treated include the concept of volunteerism, roles and responsibilities of Community Health Volunteers in CHIPS zones, counselling families during home visit, managing and accounting for resources. In addition, the participants were exposed to common community health problems and their causes, reproductive health services and family planning, child health services, community mobilization and participation, promoting good nutrition, referring clients and tracing defaulters, preventing, resolving and managing conflicts.

Dr Luiz Gohungo Amoussou, District Director of the Ghana Health Service, urged the volunteers to put aside their political affiliations and work as a team to provide quality health delivery to the people. He advised them to desist from demanding monies from people before offering them services adding that who ever was caught would be punished.
