Schools in Yendi receive television sets

The Discovery Learning Alliance (DLA), an NGO in collaboration with the Department for International Development (DFID) under the Girls Education Challenge programme has distributed Samsung LED television sets and DVD players to learning centres of 12 schools in the Yendi Municipality.

Some of the beneficiary schools are the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), Presbyterian Islamic and the Roman Catholic primary schools, Presbyterian Islamic Junior High schools.

Mr Issah Issahaku, trainer of the programme who presented the equipment to the Yendi Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Education Service, said the NGO was committed to promoting quality teaching and learning.

Mr Issah said in collaboration with the Department for International Development DFID under the Girls Education challenge, DLA was implementing the discovery Girls project in the Northern Region.

He said DLA was distributing education equipment to180 schools in eight districts in the Northern Region and that some of the beneficiary MMDAS are the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Yendi Municipal Assembly, Savelugu, Karaga and the Central Gonja districts.

Mr Issah said circuit supervisors and teachers of the beneficiary schools would be trained on how to use the equipment.

Mr Issah Zakaria, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who received the equipment on behalf of the Assembly and the Yendi Ghana Education Service, emphasized the need for the sustainability of the programme in the region since it was highly beneficial.
