School head solicits assistance for brilliant but needy pupils

Serebuoso (Ash), Jan 10, GNA=96 Miss Beatrice Aku Darkey, Headmistress of the Serebuoso D/A Junior Secondary School (JSS), in the Atwima-Mponua District, has appealed to the assembly, non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to assist brilliant but needy pupils in the area to enable them continue their education. She expressed regret that seven pupils of the school had aggregate six in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination results and were offered admissions into senior secondary schools but could not enrol due to financial difficulties.

Miss Darkey who was speaking at a fund-raising ceremony, organised by the school to support infrastructure development, at Serebuoso said the school had 100 per cent in last year's BECE results and was first among public schools in the district.

She appealed to the assembly to provide more classrooms and other infrastructure to enable the school cope with the increases in enrolment.

Miss Darkey said even though the introduction of Capitation Grant and other policies has resulted high enrolments in basic schools, there was the need for parents to complement government efforts by providing children with their needs to enhance learning. Mr Sahib Mikail Abdul-Rahman, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director, said the assembly would continue to provide school infrastructure throughout the district to promote education in the area. He also appealed to the people to invest in the education of their children to enable them acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development.

Mr Solomon Boakye, District Disease Control Officer, advised the pupils to practice basic hygiene and keep their environment clean to ensure good health.
