Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly spends 7.6 billion cedis on projects

Sawla(NR), Oct. 01, GNA - Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly has within a year spent more than 7.6 billion cedis on development projects to uplift the image of the District.

The projects nearing completion include a 2.1 billion cedis Assembly Hall Complex, a 969 million cedis bungalow for the District Chief Executive (DCE), a 923 million cedis bungalow for the District Coordinating Director and an 801 million cedis bungalow for the District finance officer.

The rest are a 396 million cedis compound house for junior staff, a 390 million cedis bungalow for the District Police Commander and two teachers' bungalows estimated at about 600 million cedis. Mr Ahmed Rufai Ibrahim, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Coordinating Director disclosed this when conducting Ghana News Agency (GNA) round the projects at Sawla at the weekend.

The District was created from Bole-Bamboi District. Mr Ibrahim said in addition, the assembly was constructing a three-unit classroom block each at Baboarayiri, Kon and Yarikoi near Kalba at an estimated cost of about 1.5 billion cedis, under the Community-Based Development Projects (CBDP).

He said the assembly had suspended funding of new projects due to lack of funds and focusing on on-going development projects, funded through its share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF), HIPC Fund and other internally generated funds.

Mr Ibrahim expressed satisfaction about the progress of work and was optimistic they would be completed before December this year. However, he appealed to Government to provide seed money towards infrastructure development to ensure that the district did not lag behind in development.

Mr Ibrahim said there was goodwill and moral support from the communities towards the assembly to improve on its policies, programmes and projects.

He said the district lacked provision of potable water and electricity to some rural communities, good roads, clinics and other basic amenities.

Mr James Kipo Sunyehzi, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Chief Executive said Government was committed to fulfil its dream of providing facilities and infrastructure to the newly created districts.
