Saltpond Methodist Senior High School marks 31st Anniversary Speech and Prize-giving Day

A Chartered Financial Analyst, Mr Robert Mashall Benin, has urged students to realise that they are responsible for their success.

Mr Benin, a Senior Advisor at Cedinomics, gave the advice at the 31st Anniversary Speech and Prize-giving Day of the Saltpond Methodist Senior High School at Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality.

“You have no excuse but to do well,” Mr Benin, a past student of the school, said.

Mr Benin reminded teachers that their role was not only to teach but also to nurture students and prepare them to tackle challenges ahead of them.

He appealed to teachers to teach students about life, which would mean spending more time with students outside the classroom. “You should be able to sit and engage students in conversations about life, about their hopes and dreams,” he said.

Mr Benin appealed to the family, community and the nation to do things that would encourage and build the youth and urged old students to make conscious, constant and coordinated efforts to help their alma mater.

Mr Simeon Obotan Larbi, Mfantseman Municipal Director of Education urged government, parents, teachers and students to sit up to find means of improving quality of education.

This, the Director said, called for total commitment on the part of all stakeholders.

Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Deputy Central Regional Minister and MP for Mfantseman West, urged students to “make hay whilst the sun shines” and must not allow the school to pass through them.

Mr. Quansah donated five computers and GHc10, 000 to the school and appealed to old students to support their alma mater.

Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman West, donated two television sets, two gas cookers, two burners, two cylinders, a projector and a cash of GHc500 to the school.

Very Rev. Paa Solomon Grant Essilfie, the Headmaster of the School who has been appointed General Manager of the Methodist Education Unit, introduced the in-coming Headmaster, Very Rev Isaac Aidoo, from Wesley Grammar School in Accra.

He commended the government for the infrastructure projects allocated to the school and appealed for speedy action on the GETFund sponsored administrative block.

He said the school chalked 100 percent passes in 2011 WASSCE with a student scoring seven “As”.

Bishop Peter Kojo Sackey, Chairman of the School’s Parent-Teacher Association, appealed to the government to complete ongoing projects in the school.

Mr Lovelace Arko Essiam, Chief Operations Officer, Global Strategic Resources Limited and an old student, pledged to sponsor the Overall Best Male and Female Students in cash and books for five years.**
