Robbers kill driver on Nkoranza-Ejura highway

Nkoranza (B/A), Mar 5, GNA - About six robbers on the night of Sunday, February 29 shot and killed Mr. John Bobo, a 26 year-old driver from Sekodumase in the Ashanti Region at a roadblock they had mounted on the Nkoranza-Ejura highway.

The robbers also seized about 5,353,000 cedis from passengers travelling from Sunyani to Ejura on a cargo truck. Superintendent of Police Benjamin Wiafe-Kwabeng told Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that the robbers mounted the roadblock with logs about four kilometres away from the town since the following day, Monday, was Ejura Market day.

He said one Mr. Baffour Kusi, driving a Mitsubishi sports car was the first person to get to the roadblock, managed to drive through it and escaped.

Supt. Wiafe-Kwabeng said another cargo truck driven by Mr. Nicholas Opoku, stopped and the robbers attacked the passengers and took their money at gunpoint.

However, the late John Bobo, who was driving a minibus sensing danger decided to reverse and drive back to Nkoranza but was shot and killed by one of the robbers. He said the Police were investigating the case and advised drivers and passengers plying the road to be extra vigilant.
