Regional Maritime University holds 13th matriculation

The Regional Maritime University on Saturday held its 13th matriculation ceremony to officially accept 449 new students into the University.

The students, who were made up of 393 males and 56 females, were registered to offer courses in BSc Computer Science, MA Ports and Shipping Administration, and BSc Engineering.

Professor Elvis Nyarko, Vice Chancellor of the University told the new students that after taking the oaths to be obedient to every authority in the University and to be of good behaviour during their stay, any act or behaviour which is against common sense is considered as a breach of the University’s regulations.

He advised the students to spend their time wisely and always recognize that their studies is a priority, stressing that, academic excellence requires hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

“You all need to remember that you have just entered that phase of your life when you are free from daily parental control and guidance; therefore what you made of your stay at the university would depend to a great extent on the choices you make’, he said.

He also urged them to complete their assignments on time and actively participate in classroom activities since it all contributes to their overall marks.

The Vice Chancellor asked them to always remember that whatever they do individually or collectively will impact on their future life, “hence the need not to sacrifice their individuality for the collective.”

“Seek to be on the right side of the law and shun all forms of vices that are luring the youth into drugs, alcohol and prostitution, among others, because they will ruin your academic life and treasured dreams”.

Mrs Joana Botchwey, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies congratulated the new students for excelling in all the requirements of the University, and urged them to be committed to their studies and obey the rules and regulations of the university to be able to achieve their goals.
