Refuse engulfs Ebenezer Senior High School

Accra, Nov. 2, GNA - Mrs Elisabeth Addo, Headmistress of Ebenezer Senior High School in Accra, has complained bitterly about the attitude of some residents of Ablekuma South who dump refuse at the school's premises.

She said residents had broken the fence wall of the school and were using part of the compound as a refuse dump.

The Headmistress said this when the Minister of Education, Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, visited the school at the weekend to inspect progress of work on infrastructural development.

Mr Addo also said the school together with notable personalities had cleared the mountain of refuse on three occasions but this had not stopped them from continuing to use the compound as a refuse dump.

"A group of people from the community even takes money from residents before they dump the refuse on the school compound. Arrangements are being made to arrest those involved," she added. She also observed that the whole school premises had been occupied by people from the community who engaged in various activities.

Mr Tettey-Enyo assured the headmistress of the ministry's support to finding lasting solutions to the problem.

The Minister was informed that work on a six-classroom block had stalled.

He told the Headmistress that he would contact the contractor and consultant to speed up work on the project.
