Rainstorm renders about people homeless

Akyem Oda, March 22, GNA - A rainstorm that hit Akyem Oda Old Town and Aprokumase at the weekend destroyed some buildings and rendered about 100 people homeless.

Mr Winfred Acheampong, Birim Central Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Co-ordinator conducted Ms Ophelia Koomson, the Municipal Chief Executive,) and Alhaji Mahammadu A. Azonko, the Municipal Co-ordinating Director to inspect the damage. At Akyem Oda Old Town a number of buildings including Church buildings had their roofs ripped-off with the iron sheets falling on electricity poles, thus causing power outages.

Some people who were injured during the disaster were treated and discharged at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital. At Aprokumase the storm, which lasted for about 15 minutes, ripped-off the roofs of about 20 buildings.

The storm also uprooted a number of coconut tree s, which fell on some buildings destroying them completely. Many of the victims are putting up with friends and relatives. Ms Koomson assured the victims that the assembly would see how best to assist them to rehabilitate their buildings.
