Rainstorm displaces 300, injures 4 at Chereponi

About 300 persons have been displaced and properties estimated at several thousands of Ghana Cedis destroyed at Wenchiki a farming community in the Chereponi district of the Northern region following a heavy rainstorm that swept the area Friday night.

The rainstorm which started at about 4pm and lasted for some three hours according to Ultimate Fm’s Eliasu Tanko, ripped off over 200 houses rendering dozens homeless and injuring about four persons.

Two of the injured persons have been treated and discharged from the Chereponi hospital.

“It started around 7pm with heavy winds and has rendered over 300 people homeless. People are now in the town staying with relatives.. We need the NADMO and government to help us because people we don’t what to do”

The storm has also caused extensive damage to many properties including the only school in the area. The incident destroyed many electric poles plunging most part of the region into darkness

The Regional Head of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in an interview, confirmed incident but said the storm did not only affect the Wenchiki community.

He told Eliasu Tanko his outfit is currently assessing the situation and would later make public the number of communities affected

Meanwhile, our reporter indicates that, close to one thousand people are homeless and properties running into millions destroyed in the 7 communities affected by similar disaster from the beginning of this year
