Rainstorm collapses school block, roads

Techiman, May 08, GNA - A rainstorm has hit Asantanso, a settler farming community in Techiman municipality, and ripped the roofing of the local junior secondary school. Part of the building also collapsed.

Mr John Kwasi Kwao, Assembly Member for Baamiri electoral area, told the Ghana News Agency that about 75 students of the school now study under mango trees on the school compound. He expressed regret that the people put up the school block on their own at the cost of more than 120 million cedis. Mr Kwao appealed to Techiman Municipal Assembly, the Municipal directorate of education, Techiman Zonal Council and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Secretariat to help rehabilitate the block.

Also, farmers at Asantanso and Woraso in the municipality find it difficult to transport their produce to Techiman market as the rains had rendered the roads un-motorable.

Mr Kwao mentioned the worst affected roads as Baamiri-Asantanso Junction-Asantandanso and Baamiri-Woraso and called on the assembly to come to their aid.
