Queens want churches to institute mass weddings

Ho, May 09, GNA - Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra, President of the Volta Regional Queens Association, at the weekend called on churches to institute mass weddings to reduce financial costs in celebrating marriages. She said many young men and women were cohabiting without any legal marriage contract due to the financial costs involved and added that mass weddings would help resolve the situation. Mamaga Kofi Bra made the call through the Ghana News Agency after a Day's sensitization workshop for Queens in the Region on Intestate Succession Law and Property Rights of Spouse Law. The workshop was organized by Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA).

Mamaga Kofi Bra advised young women against 93jumping" into relationships that did not ensure and protect their interests. Madam Shiela Menka-Premo, Executive Chairperson of LAWA, said there was no fairness when it came to sharing property arising out of 93improper marriages" and urged prospective wives to ensure that they were properly married.
