Queen mothers appeal for return of UEW language department to Ajumako

Winneba (C/R), 22 May, GNA - The Ajumako-Enyan Essiam District Queen Mothers Association on Thursday appealed to the government and the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to speed up plans to return the language Department of the University to Ajumako. They made the appeal when executives of the Association met the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Professor Asabere Ameyaw to present a resolution on the matter to him. They were led by Nana Bedu I, the Association's president, Nana Aboagyewaa, Secretary and Nana Adwoa Edua II, Organizer. The Queen mothers said the return of the Language Department to Ajumako would greatly contribute to the accelerated development of the district by way of providing employment for the citizenry. They added that the move would also boost commercial activities and also enhance education, as well as provide the enabling environment for infrastructural development. "It must be noted that since the school was taken away from the Ajumako to Winneba, the District has suffered a lot in terms of development and as such its return will greatly turn the fortunes of the district around," Nana Bedu said. Professor Akwasi Asabere said the proposal for the return of the Ajumako language Department had been forwarded to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports for action. The VC said the return of the language department to Ajumako would enable the University turn out more teachers to fill vacancies in the classrooms, adding that annually the University produces 4,000 teachers from its three campuses, Winneba, Kumasi and Ashanti Mampong.
