Queen Mother urges Ghanaians to cultivate and maintain peace

The Queenmother of Gomoa-Pomadze, Nana Esi Guraba II has advised Ghanaians to cultivate and maintain peace in all their dealings.

According to Nana Guraba, the most valuable assets that Ghanaians, irrespective of political, religious, and ethnic affiliations, should always search for and embrace firmly, are peace, unity, mutual understanding, and co-operation.

She said if the citizenry equip themselves with these vital divine qualities, right from the grassroots to the national level, they could come together, plan and effectively implement important decisions that could provide lasting solutions to the numerous socio-economic, cultural, and religious challenges confronting the nation.

Nana Guraba, who was addressing the people of Pomadze on issues bothering on development at the weekend, charged women in the town to play a key role in the planning and execution of development projects.

She explained that living in a peaceful nation and environment, like the one Ghanaians are experiencing now, affords the citizenry the greatest opportunity to properly plan and implement workable initiatives devoid of intimidation and fear.

Nana Guraba therefore counselled Ghanaians to take advantage of the current peace that the nation is enjoying, to work out better strategies collectively to advance development at all levels.

The Queenmother endorsed the decision by leaders of the various religious organisations in the country to devote enough time to pray for a sustained peace and stability, during the current electioneering by political parties during and after the November 7 general election.

Speaking at the meeting, Gomoaba Nana Apata Kofi V, Guantoahene of the Gomoa-Ajumako Traditional Area, backed for the call by Nana Esi Guraba, and expressed the hope that Ghanaians would heed the advice to ensure a lasting peace, stability, and progress.

Nana Apata Kofi said peace, stability, unity and co-operation, constitute the right “Master Keys” which every serious and forward-looking society requires for the opening of the gateway of progress in its developmental activities.

The Guantoahene repeated the call on followers of the various political parties to place the well-being of the nation first in all their discussions, to avoid unnecessary riots, confrontations and destruction of state property which does not promote progress.

He said Ghana constitutes one people, one nation with a common destiny, adding: “Our target must always gear towards building a strong, united and prosperous nation beneficial to the present and future generations.”

On sanitation, Nana Apata Kofi charged community group leaders in and around Pomadze Township to always ensure that the people lived in clean, decent, and sound environments at all times.

Mr Kweku Appiakubi, Secretary to the Pomadze Town Development Committee, gave the assurance that members would work hard to ensure that the Town is kept clean to make it a disease free community.

Mr Appiakubi promised that besides organising regular meetings to sensitise the people on environmental sanitation challenges and benefits, the committee would use the equipment at the local information centre to hammer home the need for the inhabitants to keep their environments decent all the time.

He expressed optimism that, that way the health status of the people could be raised to assist them in the operation of their farming and other businesses, and called for the understanding and co-operation from the people to facilitate execution of development programmes initiated by the committee.
