Quadruplet babies get support from philanthropist

After Twenty-Two years of childless marriage, the dream of a Forty-three (43) year-old trader, Afushietu Abaka-Sampson was fulfilled when on July 3, 2014, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, she delivered quadruplets (four babies).

Afushietu, who is married to a 62 year old former contractor, Mr. Mohamed Abaka-Sampson, told The Chronicle that though she is happy for an answered prayer, the economic burden is a herculean one, since her husband is currently unemployed.

She said God being so good, none of the four children have been ill after delivery. However, the cost of transportation to the hospital for periodic medical check-up is a challenge.

According to the fortunate mother of the quadruplets, her personal health condition was at risk, so she could not adhere to the six months intensive breastfeeding for the children and has introduced them to light food. She said feeding the children was a challenge, because they consume a box of Nun baby food within six days, and the cost of a box is GHc324, which is draining the family’s finances.

Luckily for the Abaka-Sampson’s family, a United Kingdom (UK) based Consultant Medical Doctor, Dr. Kwame Adu-Poku, who is a native of Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District of Brong-Ahafo, where the couple live, has come to the aid of the children and the family.

Dr. Adu-Poku has donated assorted items, including Baby Diapers, packs of toilet rolls, boxes of soaps and detergents, infant food supplements (such as SMAs), gallons of cooking oil, tin-fish and baby creams at an estimated cost of GHc4,500 to the family.

The donation was done by Mr. Francis Sarfo Poku (brother of Dr. Adu Poku) and Assemblyman for the Zongo Electoral Area at Kenyasi No.1, on behalf of Dr. Adu-Poku.

In a telephone interview with Dr. Adu-Poku, he disclosed that he read about the delivery of the quadruplets in The Chronicle and on the internet, and acknowledging the current economic situation in the country he decided to assist them.

According to Dr. Adu-Poku, the donation of the items was not going to be the last, as he would do his possible best to support the couple to take good care of the four baby girls.

Mr. Mohamed Abaka-Sampson commended Dr. Adu-Poku for the support and gave the names of the children as Nihal Nyameye Adutwumwaa Abaka-Sampson, Nihad Nyameye Adumbrate Abaka-Sampson, Nawal Nyameye Adutwumwaa Abaka-Sampson and Najat Nyameye Adutwumwaa Abaka-Sampson.
