Public urged to call ambulance services in emergencies

The Medical Doctor in charge of the National Ambulance Services in Sunyani, Dr. Francis Setorbzite, has called on the public to desist from calling the police when there are emergencies where human lives are at risk.

Rather, the ambulance boss said in the event of any emergency, the public must call the ambulance services which are equipped to save lives.

Dr Setorbzite told Space FM in Sunyani that it is unfortunate that in many instances when there are accidents where the services of ambulances are required, the public rather fall on the police who are not equipped to save lives.

The ambulance boss added that the national ambulance is equipped with technicians, paramedics, heart defibrillators, intravenous drips, splints, oxygen, drugs among others and are therefore always ready to offer first aid to accident victims before sending them to the hospital for further treatment.

Dr Setorbzite said the national ambulance also has special communication skills which are employed to enable doctors provide precise treatment for accident victims on arrival at the hospital.

He noted that when the ambulance team arrives at an accident scene, they look out for casualties and determine which ones need urgent attention.

He also appealed to the public not to tamper with accident victims since in most cases because of the lack of knowledge, members of the public rather worsen the situation of accident victims when they attempt saving them.
