Private midwives at Ajumako withdraw services

Ajumako (C/R) Aug.13, GNA- Ms Adriana Deheer Acting District Director of Ghana Health Service (GHS) for Ajumako- Esiam-Enyan, has observed that the withdrawal of the free services being offered by private midwives had brought pressure on public Health institutions in the District.

She said the withdrawal of the services was due to the inability of the GHS to pay the midwives bills accruing from their pre-financed services last year.

Ms. Deheer who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Ajumako said the situation had compelled pregnant women to resort to the services of quack midwives, which could lead to an increase in maternal mortality rate in the District.

Madam Anna Kate Cudjoe Midwife in-charge of Ann Maternity Home at Entumbil who confirmed the story to the GNA said the total of 60 million cedis her outfit spent on pregnant mothers had not been paid thus bringing undue financial stress to her outfit.
