President salutes political heroes

Begoro, March 8, GNA - A whirlwind that blew across the parade ground during the golden jubilee anniversary parade at Begoro nearly marred the celebration in the Fanteakwa District.

The wind whirled around the dais, got under one of the canopies and raised it. It hanged in the air until some security personnel pulled it down.

The inciden t looked dramatic, was scary and people sitting under the canopy took to their heels but no casualties were recorded. The incident occurred after school children and voluntary organizations had taken part in a march and the Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Ceasar, was reading the President's address.

The District Director of Education for Fanteakwa, Ms Mary Animwah, urged Ghanaians to champion the African continent with good morals and values since democracy did not mean disrespect for authority but the absolute application of the rule of law.

She called on the people to see the golden jubilee anniversary as a period of stock taking of activities so as to build a better Ghana. Osabarima Awuah Kotoko, II, Begorohene and Benkumhene of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional area who chaired the function, commended past and present governments on the development projects carried out to raise the living standard of the people.
