The Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Nathan Kofi Boakye has warned organizers of various demonstrations to notify the police before they embark on demonstrations in any corner of the region.

Demonstration organizers are required to give a prior notification of five working days before intended date.

"The Ashanti Regional police commander is reminding the general public that it is mandatory for organizers of public events such as demonstrations and processions to notify five (5) clear days before the intended date," the police said.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusif M.Tanko, he warned persons planning to go on demonstration without seeking approval of sanctions.

"Failure to do violates clear provision of the public order Act, Act 491. Police has, however, picked intelligence that some groups of persons are planning a demonstration in the region without satisfying the provisions of the Act and that has the potential of breaching public peace," he stated.

"Police is warning that any act which is intended to breach public peace will not be countenance and will be dealt with in accordance with law. We urge the public not to be part of any demonstration or procession the organizers of which have not complied with law.

Any person with any information on a person or group of persons who are scheming to breach public peace should endeavour to report same to police," he urged.
