Police Service entreated to weed out bad nuts

Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, Deputy Western Regional Minister, has entreated the Police Service to peer-review itself and weed out bad nuts that are dragging its name in the mud.

He said there had been reports that some police personnel gave prior information about the operations of the police to smugglers, illegal miners and other social miscreants and, therefore, urged the Service to get rid of such personnel in order to hold high its integrity.

Mr Ekow Gyan made these remarks at the Annual West Africa Security and Social Activity (WASSA) of the Ghana Police Service in Sekondi, on Friday.

“I believe these are the mechanizations of a few bad nuts that put the good name of the Police into disrepute and I urge you to peer-review yourselves and weed out those bad nuts to uphold the integrity of the Service,” he said.

Mr. Gyan also entreated the police to be extra vigilant to curb any activity that would pose a security threat to the peace and tranquility prevailing in the country.

“The Western Region has become very unique in the country, especially with regards to its attractions through the numerous minerals such as cocoa, timber and recently the oil and gas, therefore, these have opened the borders of the region to all manner of people including miscreants,” he said.

He, therefore, entreated the police to remain professional and alert so as to deal decisively with all unscrupulous elements that might cause mayhem.

Mr. Gyan commended the out-going Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, for acquitting himself professionally during his stay in the region and expressed optimism that the coming Commander, COP Alex Isaac Quainoo, would also continue the good works of his predecessor to make the region enjoy peace and harmony.

He entreated the police to maintain and improve upon the police/civilian collaboration so as to receive support from the civilian population to better the lot of society.
