Police Have Arrested Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V

The Effiduase Ashanti police have arrested the most famous and popular Kumawuhene
Barima Tweneboa Kodua V yesterday, Thursday 23 February 2017 in the evening. They
have since transferred him to the Kumasi Central police station. As at putting out
this publication, the police have not preferred any charge against him but are surely
going to charge him for what crime nobody knows yet.
The public will recall that armed police-cum-military personnel stormed
Kumawu-Bodomase on Thursday 16 February 2017 with intent to forcibly stop Kumawuhene
Barima Tweneboa Kodua V and his sub-chiefs and a retinue of sympathising mourners
from proceeding to the grounds where the late Kumawu Akyempemhene Nana Okyere Krapa
II was laid in state.

The police destroyed his traditional kingly umbrellas as well as that of his
sub-chiefs. The police and the soldiers fired rubber and live bullets as well as tear
gas into the crowd and into the air to disperse the crowd. In the process of
assaulting Barima Tweneboa Kodua V and his sub-chiefs and supporting mourners, some
of the security agents as well as the public suffered various degrees of gunshot
wounds and injuries.

The late Kumawu Akyempemhene was one of the sub-chiefs of Barima Tweneboa Kodua V and
Barima’s father by extension of the Ashanti traditional extended family.

From reliable information reaching me as at 16:00 hours today, the police are
oscillating between charging him with firing a gunshot at the Divisional Police
Commander of Effiduase who is presumed to be on admission to Okomfo Anokye hospital
receiving treatment for gunshot wounds he sustained and an about to be made
fictitious charge(s). From the video evidence of the police-cum-military brutalities
inflicted on Barima Tweneboa Kodua V and his sub-chiefs and supporters, could he have
possessed a fire arm to fire it at anybody? The public must judge it for themselves.
Further to the information, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has sent one of his
Asanteman paramount chiefs from Tepa to the Kumasi Central Police Station where
Barima Tweneboa Kodua V is currently being held for what reason only God knows. Could
he be that order from above scheming for the elimination of Kumawuhene Barima
Tweneboa Kodua V?

Additionally, Kumawuhemaa Nana Abenaa Serwaah Amponsah has chartered a taxi from
Kumawu to Effiduase Police station as at writing for reasons yet unknown to the
public.
