Philanthropist gives scholarships to students

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Jan. 19, GNA - The Management of Jeopadise Trading Company, a distributor of Coca-Cola drinks and building contractors at Dormaa-Ahenkro, has since 2002 awarded scholarships worth 80 million cedis to 80 students in the Dormaa District. The company's scholarships scheme, which covered students in second cycle schools and tertiary institutions, is aimed at improving the falling standard of education in the district, Mr George Padmore Kumi, Managing Director, disclosed at a meeting of the beneficiaries and their parents at Dormaa-Ahenkro. He said as a citizen of Dormaa-Ahenkro, it was his avowed objective to contribute towards the development of the town, stressing that since education is a potent tool for national development every effort must be made to encourage students.

Mr Kumi appealed to the beneficiary students to study hard to enable them to achieve their academic objectives. He announced that the company had set up a special scholarship committee to oversee and monitor the performances of the students, cautioning that those who would perform poorly in examinations would be withdrawn from the scheme. Mr Lawrence Kyeremeh, one of the parents, thanked the company for its support to the students and urged churches, individuals and organizations to emulate it. He appealed to parents to provide their children with their basic needs and materials to encourage them to study and learn.
