People of Fianko object to Assembly's demand

Fianko (B/A), Oct. 25,GNA - The people of Fianko and its environs, near Mim in Asunafo North Municipality of Brong-Ahafo have refused to pay a token fee of GHC 2,700 towards the rehabilitation of feeder roads linking the communities.

They said the demand was "extremely exorbitant" and the municipal assembly which made the demand has come under intense pressure over the issue.

The affected communities have petitioned the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to institute a comprehensive programme to determine how the assembly could help the communities. The communities include Fianko, Driverkrom, Anwiawia, Peterkrom and Gyasikrom.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) learnt that the assembly's earth moving machine, which was purchased about eight months ago, was currently not operational because the communities could not fuel it. Some leaders in the communities have however protested against the high fees being charged by the municipal assembly for rehabilitation works.

At its second ordinary meeting at Goaso, the assembly set up a five member committee to look into the operations and financial matters relating to the day-to-day operations of the equipment. Meanwhile, the assembly has opened a special account to ensure the effective monitoring of the earth moving machine.
