Peki paramountcy assures govt of peaceful burial

The Peki Traditional Area has assured government and people of the area that the late Deiga Kwadzo Dei XI, Paramount Chief of the area, would be given a befitting burial without recourse to violence.

“We wish to assure the Government…and the citizens of Peki Traditional Area …and all sympathizers near and far that the burial of Deiga Kwadzo Dei XI would come on as originally planned,” Togbe Ayim Mordey VI, Chief of Avetile Peki, told journalists on Thursday.

He said the burial ceremony would start from Friday, February 20, and end on Sunday March 1, 2015.

Togbe Mordey VI also assured the people of South Dayi District, Peki Traditional Council and Peki Paramountcy of safety and pledged to give full support to the Regional Security Council and District Security Committee to keep the peace before, during and after the burial.

He dismissed claims by one Mr C.C. Fiti to be the next chief of the Peki Traditional Area and, therefore, mandated to take charge of the burial ceremony of the late Paramount Chief.

He also debunked claims by Mr Fiti that there had been a feud between the Peki Traditional Council and the three royal families of Peki, when he [Fiti] was installed as Regent of Peki.

He said it was not true that the “burial council” had ignored the advice of the Volta Regional Security Council which urged the parties to resolve their differences.

Mr Edem Asimah, Member of Parliament for South Dayi, expressed his support for activities of legitimate chiefs and those working for peace and stability of the traditional area.
