Peki Secondary School launches 50th anniversary

Peki-Dzake (V/R), Feb. 11, GNA - Mr. Kwame Adorbor, the Director of Finance and Administration, Ministry of Private Sector Reform, on Saturday called on stakeholders, chiefs and those in leadership positions in the Peki Traditional area to contribute towards the improvement of the Peki Secondary School.

He said the government was doing all it could to improve the standard of education in the country and that "a little push " from those in leadership positions would augment the efforts of the government.

Mr. Adorbor, who performed the Home Launch of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Peki Secondary School, said the capitation grant, school feeding programme and the construction of schools was a testimony of what the government was doing to improve education. He expressed regret over poor infrastructure in the school and promised that the government would leave no stone unturned to include it in its school up-grading programme.

Mr. Adorbor urged the Parent/Teacher Association, chiefs, opinion leaders and past students of the school to put their shoulders to the wheel to complement the efforts of the government. Mrs. Woyram Boachie-Danquah, the South Dayi District Chief Executive, said the new created South Dayi District Assembly would squeeze something from its small resources to assist in the development of the school.

"We will soon provide the school with 150 classroom tables and 150 chairs."

Mr. Erasmus W. Anyomi, the Headmaster of the School, said the school, which started with 36 students, has grown rapidly to a population of 820 students and scored 100 percent in last year's WASSCE.

He complained about the absence of dormitory blocks for boys and girls, a dinning hall, assembly hall and a staff common room.

Dr Kwame Ampofo, the Member of Parliament for the area, promised to offer six scholarships - three for boys and three for girls - for brilliant students who gain admission from the three second cycle in the district to pursue university education.
