Parents encouraged to send their children to pre-schools

Accra, May 12, GNA - Miss Alberta Akosua, Exhibition Director for KIDUFAIR, an educational fair for toddlers, on Thursday called on parents to send their children to pre-schools to enhance their knowledge at the basic educational level.

She asked parents to support pre-schools in their communities to enhance early childhood training.

Miss Akosua made the call at the launch of 2011 KIDUFAIR, to assist parents to appreciate early childhood education and the role of men in the upbringing of children.

She said KIDUFAIR was an educational exhibition for children of age six and below, to promote and showcase pre-schools and enhance the skills and responsiveness of parents and educational institutions, to emerging child development issue.

The fair on the theme: 93The Early Stages of Our Child", has been schedule from August 10-14 at the Aviation Social Centre in Accra. It would bring together participants from more than 350 pre-schools from Sakumono, Dansoman, Alajo, East Legon and Roman Ridge communities.

Miss Akosua said the fair would provide an opportunity for parents to visit 10 schools in a community, to assess teaching modules and possibly visit more schools.

She said the aim was to ease the stress parents go through in identifying pre-schools for their children in the quest to build a solid foundation for their education.

Miss Akosua said the fair would provide an opportunity for all pre-schools in the country, to perform better and apply the appropriate rules to enhance child development.

Mrs Ledy Paula, Proprietress of Our Lady of Mercy School, said the event would expose parents to an array of pre-school opportunities in their communities and offer a platform for nurseries and kindergartens to 93market their products."

She said pre-schools developed the ability of children in understanding basic symbols like gestures, speeches and reading at the early stage of their education.

Mrs Paula said that the fair would facilitate children's observance of table manners and brushing of their teeth.

She called on parents to attend the fair to enable them to have the opportunity to select good pre-schools for their children and acquire the culture of saving towards their children's education.
