PTA and SMC commend Adansi-Atobiase school

Adansi-Atobiase (Ash), Oct 21, GNA - The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and School Management Committee (SMC) of the Adansi-Atobiase Local Authority Junior Secondary School have commended teachers of the school for their hard work and dedication to duty. They noted that the attitude of the teachers had brought about a change in the performance of the school in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for the past three years.

Nana Kofi Owusu, chairman of the SMC and Krontihene of Atobiase and Mr Stephen Kwaning, the PTA chairman, who commended the teachers, noted that in 2001, the school presented 47 candidates for the BECE out of which 20 passed.

They said in 2002, out of the 42 candidates presented for the examination, 25 passed while in 2003, 45 out of the 54 candidates who took the examination passed, which showed a steady rise.

The commendation was conveyed to the teachers at the first general meeting of the PTA and SMC at Adansi-Atobiase on Monday to review the performance of the pupils at this year's BECE.

They noted that the work of the teachers did not reflect only in the examination results but also in the moral discipline of the pupils as well.

Nana Owusu asked the pupils to stop roaming the streets at night but devote their leisure time to studying hard to pass their examination well, reminding them that the competition for places in senior secondary schools especially the well-endowed ones was very fierce and unless one passed very well he would not get admission.

Mr A. Donkor Dapaah, the headteacher of the school, said it was gratifying that their efforts had been recognised and that it showed the community's appreciation towards their efforts.

Mr William Boakye Baafi, one of the teachers at the school and the New Edubiase parish co-ordinator of the Association of Catholic Teachers, advised parents to invest more in the education of their children instead of spending lavishly on clothes and on funerals. 21 OCT. 03
