Over 2000 Pregnant Women To Receive Support-NGO

Over 2000 pregnant women are expected to recieve free maternal care in the E/R.The support will be delivered in a program christened "Bring cheer to your community campaign " by the Devine mother and Child Foundation,DMAC,an NGO,through its Community mobile health outreach services.

The project will start in March,2015 and end in 2017. vodafon Ghana fondation recently provided the ultrasound scan machine to the NGO in support of the project.

The President of DMAC Foundation,Edmund Duodu explained that,the project is intended to benefit over 2000 pregnant women in rural communities to get access to ultrasound service free of charge at their door steps.

"Our mothers especially the pregnant ones and children are always the vulnerable looking at our society set up system,hence,the health and education of these class of the society must be a priority ,it is on this note that Divine mother and child foundation want to bring a positive change to as many people we come accross in our community.
Mr.Duodu who is a Nurse by Profession,averred that,"one big challenge our foundation sees is the inadequate ultrasound scan imaging for our pregnant women most especially those in the rural areas. Adding that, " Ultrasound is important in promoting maternal and child health but in Ghana the service is found only in the district hospitals.

Pregnant women in the rural areas has to travel on bad roads to the city to queue for the service. There are places where even transportation is not neccessary or even the money to pick a car to the health facility becomes a challenge because most of the rural areas are poor.
Health is a neccessity and becomes more than crucial when a woman is pregnant."

He said,the joy of an expectant couple to give birth when the wife is pregnant turns to mourning when she dies especially from preventable causes.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) indicates that diagnostic imaging is crucial in health care However, many countries in the
developing world cannot afford to purchase expensive high
technology imaging equipment despite the urgent need to use
imaging resources in these countries.
Women in semi-urban and rural areas across Ghana and Africa in
general often die due to preventable complications during childbirth, as they have no access to ultrasound screenings to detect critical
conditions.

Many of these deaths can be diagnosed with basic imaging technology.

He stated that "Our team have researched and have concluded that we will send this ultrasound imaging technology to the rural communities free of charge to our pregnant women.

This community mobile outreach project will be used to scan about 2000 pregnant women in the rural areas.

He said ,for the start,the project will be piloted in four municipal/districts namely Akyemansa,Ayensuano,Akuapim South and Suhum all in the Eastern region of Ghana ,for two years.

Mr.Duodu reteriated the commitment of the NGO on promoting maternal and child health which is envisaged that by the end of the project, maternal mortality in the region will be decreased to 30%.

He called on donors,phillantropis, and coporate organizations to support in cash and kind to this worthy course for its sustainability and extenssion.

He commended vodafone ghana foundation for their support.
