A magnificent statue of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been unveiled at the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital amid pomp and pageantry.

Kojo Bonsu, the Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) mooted the idea of constructing the gorgeous statue of the Asantehene ostensibly to honour Otumfuo Osei Tutu who marked the 17th anniversary of his ascension to the Golden Stool on Tuesday.

The Urban Roads Department in Kumasi, headed by Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, who is a grand nephew of Otumfuo, provided technical advice which went a long way to ensure the construction of the giant statue.

DDP Outdoor Company Limited, a leading advertising company in the country, also provided financial and logistical support.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was supported by his wife, Lady Julia, Kojo Bonsu and other prominent Asante chiefs, unveiled the statue amid cheers.

The Asantehene, who was elated, stated that the construction of the giant statue would spur him on to continue his exceptional leadership to help expedite the development of Asanteman and Ghana as a whole.

He charged the people of Kumasi and Asanteman in general to keep their areas clean to stop the spread of diseases, stressing that sanitation issues should be prioritized by the people.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu thanked Kojo Bonsu and others that played a role in the construction of the giant statue to honour, stressing that he would continue to lead Asanteman honestly.
