One person dies in accident

Kumasi, Sept. 21, GNA -One bystander died on the spot and six others sustained serious injuries when a tipper truck carrying sand veered off the road and ran over them at Anloga junction in Kumasi on Saturday.

The dead was identified as Salamatu Alhassan, age 45, while the six who were injured, four of them critically were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hospital.

Briefing the GNA on the accident, Inspector Gregory A. Achayire, Officer in-charge of the KNUST police accident squad said the tipper truck, which was driven by Issifu Musah was heading towards Aboabo from Afful-Nkwanta when an unlicensed mini bus crossed it.

He said in the process, the tipper truck hit the back tyre of the mini bus, making the driver to lose control of the steering wheel, veered off the road and ran over the victims who were standing on the pavement at Anloga junction road.

Inspector Achayire said the driver of the tipper truck has been placed in police custody, while the body of the dead has been deposited at the KNUST hospital for autopsy.
