Omanhene advises chiefs to refrain from party politics

Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 16, GNA - Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area has urged traditional rulers to be self-disciplined and stay away from party politics in order that they would not loose their credibility before the public.

Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom, also the President of Brong-Ahafo Region House of Chiefs made the observation when he addressed some of his elders and the royal family members of Bomiri in his area during the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief of the area, Nana Baffo Korkor at his place over the weekend.

He said as party politics puts people into factions, a traditional ruler who would indulged in it would find it very difficult to organize his people for those who would not belong to his side would always oppose his views and ideas.

He therefore stressed the need for traditional rulers to allow the youth to carry on with their political party ambitions while they would also serve as the custodians of the land and they would be able to promote unity, peace and understanding among their people for the development of their communities.

Nana Agyemang Kudom advised opinion leaders of the communities such as Assemblymembers, Unit Committees and Religious leaders to respect the views of traditional rulers so as to win their support in their services in the area.

The Omanhene called on the new chief to live above reproach so as to maintain his dignity as traditional ruler and a role model of the community of Bomiri.

Nana Baffo Korkor the new chief known in private life as Mr. Yaw Korkor is a 43 year old businessman who replaced the former chief, his uncle Nana Osei Baffo who abdicated the stool about three years ago. Nana Baffo Korkor was grateful to his people for choosing him to be their leader and said it was his prayer that God would be with him and grant him much wisdom to enable him serve the people to their expectations and to move the community forward.

Mr. Kwabena Kyeremeh, Assemblyman of the area advised the youth to respect the new chief and all other opinion leaders so as to encourage them in their activities and services to the community. Mr. Kyeremeh stressed the need for them to get actively involved in communal labour activities and would be able to initiate development projects that would bring improvement into their living standards. Present at the ceremony were traditional rulers such as Nana Kwabena Ohene Tetteh, Nifahene, Nana Kwabena Fa, Pemasehene, Nana Okofo Agyapong II, Adontehene, Nana Takyi Baffo, Tomhene. The elders of Bomiri were Nana Afia Nyarko, Bomirihemaa, Nana Abena Kwao, Sorohemaa, Nana Antwere Korintehene, Nana Kwaku Addae, Sorohene, Nana Asempe and the head of the royal family Nana Poku. 16 Feb. 07
