Ofosu-Ampofo donates computers to Begoro SHS

Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, immediate past Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has donated 15 laptops to the Begoro Presbyterian Senior High School (Begoro Presec).

Ten of the laptops would be kept in the school’s computer laboratory and the remaining five given to teachers. They are to enhance teaching and learning of ICT in the school.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo made the donation during the 40th Anniversary celebration of the school at the week-end at Begoro.

He noted that the world had entered into technological era and that it was imperative that students were equipped with facilities to enhance their technological prowess in order to tackle future challenges.

Receiving the laptops, Mrs Selina A. Danso, headmistress of the school, expressed appreciation to Mr Ofosu-Ampofo acknowledging his continuous support to the school over the years.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo’s close association with the school since its establishment had endeared the school authorities so much that they had named a dormitory block after him.

The former Minister was very instrumental in raising the school to its current status, especially since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took office in January 2009.

Through his efforts, the Begoro Presec benefited from government education projects which included 20-unit and 22-unit two storey boys and girls dormitories respectively.

The school has also benefited from a six-unit classroom block with its ancillary facilities and the rehabilitation of its Science Resource Centre.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo pledged his continuous support to the school until it becomes one of the first class schools in the country.

“Indeed it is my long-standing personal ambition to make this school a model one that can be compared to first class schools such as Achimota, Mfantsipim, St. Peters, St. Roses and the Pope Johns,” he said.

He also assured the school that the NDC government was committed to enhancing education in the country and that he was sure the Mahama-led administration was up to the task.

“The NDC government since 2009 has consistently been rolling out holistic and comprehensive programmes to develop learning centres to train the required manpower needed for meaningful development and it will not renege on its goals,” he stressed.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo therefore charged the students to work hard and be highly disciplined, eschewing all negative behaviours in order to become responsible citizens for “a more advanced better Ghana.”

He also urged the teachers and parents to complement the government’s efforts in shaping the lives of the young ones through sound education and training.
