Nkrankwanta awards its cocoa farmers

Nkrankwanta, Nov. 18, GNA - The Produce Buying Company has organized a farmers' awards day and honoured 66 cocoa farmers for their contributions to the cocoa industry.

Each of the farmers was presented with a pair of Wellington boots, two cutlasses and a 'tee' shirt at the ceremony at Nkrankwanta in Dormaa District of the region.

Speaking at the function Nana Adjei Damoah, Brong Ahafo Regional Chief Farmer, advised cocoa farmers to seek the advice of officials of Cocoa Services Division before cutting down trees affected by the Swollen Shoot disease.

He urged the award-winning farmers to continue to work hard to improve their yield to help the country to regain its status as the world's best producer of the commodity.

The Chief farmer warned them against smuggling of cocoa to neighbouring countries.

Mr Kweku Gaisie, Deputy Regional Manager of PBC, advised the farmers to embrace the Akuafo cheque system to be able to secure loans from financial institutions.
