Nii Tetteh Tsuru urges pensioners to be optimistic

Accra, Sept. 3, GNA - Nii Kpobi Tetteh Tsuru III, La Mantse, on Thursday called on pensioners and the elderly in society to be optimistic to ensure longevity in post-retirement years. He made the call at the launch of Silver Jubilee celebration of University of Ghana Pensioners Association in Accra.

Nii Tetteh Tsuru noted that the association indicated a dedication of 25 years of working life to the founding and growth of the university.

He said it must be a source of great pleasure and satisfaction for members to review their memory and the exciting pioneering years of the growth of the university.

Nii Tetteh Tsuru said from the humble temporary beginnings at the old Achimota College west compound to the permanent site at Legon in terms of structural expansion and explosion in the student population, the vast diversity of fields of study, teaching and research, the university had an intricate network of interaction with the international academic fraternity.

He said the university had not been excluded from revolutionary outburst at governmental level and radical activist student campus politics in the country's tertiary education. Mr. Emmanuel A. Asagba, Chairman of the association, appealed to the university authorities to provide health insurance identity cards to members.

He said the increase in membership required a permanent building at a place approved by the development committee on the main Accra-Madina road. Awards were presented to deserving members.
