Nifahemaa of Assin Foso institutes awards for teachers

Assin Foso (C/R), April 2, GNA - Nana Appiantu IV, Nifahemaa of Assin Foso has instituted awards for instructors of the Assin Foso Vocational Training Institute, with the maiden ceremony attracting the sum of GH¢35,000.

The award was meant to reward the hard working instructors and motivate them to give of their best to the students. Nana Appiantu who is the Chairperson of the Board of Management of the Institute presented the prizes at the awards ceremony at Assin Foso in the Central Region.

She said she was determined to assist the authorities of the Institute to make the facility one of the best in the country. Mr Samuel Kwashie Amegbor, Manager of the Institute commended Nana Appiantu for committing resources towards the award. He said the institution of the award was on the institute's drawing board for a long time but lack of funds did not make it possible.

Mr Amegbor said the awards would minimise the high rate of resignation by the staff and improve teaching and learning, and also promote dedication and the sense of belonging to the institute and the host community.

Neenyi Francis Kofi Tagoe, Chairman of the Institute's Parent/Teacher Association called on policy makers to send their children to vocational and technical schools to remove the wrong notion that students at such academic institutions were not clever. The awards ceremony coincided with the orientation for new students of the institute.

Addressing the students, Mr Stephen Amponsah, Director of the National Vocational Training Institute said the Institute would soon adopt the Competency-Based Training (CBT) system which focused on actual jobs required in the workplace and the ability to transfer and supply skills knowledge and attitudes to new situations and environment.

Mr Samuel Nee-Sowah Yoyowah, Central and Western Regional Project Manager of ABT, a German Water Company, noted that the missing link in Ghana's economy was the lack of attention to technical and vocational education.

The award winners included Mr Alfred Chiller Dadzie, Motor Vehicle Mechanics Instructor who was adjudged the Best Instructor. He received a fridge, Ms Philomena Asiedu, Secretary also received a fridge for being the best administrator, Mr Paul Eric Danso, Security Officer received a 21-inch television and Mr Emmanuel Sam Liberal, Studies Instructor received a 21-inch television.

Mr Sam Allotey from Carpentry and Joinery Department, Ms Faustina Dadzie from Catering Department, Mrs Catherine Fletcher Coker from Dressmaking Department, Mr John Botwey from Block-laying and Construction Department and Mr Peter Anyomi, Carpentry and Joinery Department all received television sets and certificates. Nana Appiantu also donated a deep-freezer to the Catering Department of the Institute.
