New executive members of GMSA inducted into office

Kumasi, June 12, GNA - Mr Tuahir Musah, immediate past President of the University of Cape Coast branch of the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA), has expressed concern about the increasing spate of conflicts and antagonisms in most Muslims communities and said that have affected development.

He called on the members of the association to step up their educational activities and programmes within Muslims settlements to ensure peace and unity.

Mr Musah said this at a ceremony to induct into office new executive members of the Ashanti Regional branch of the GMSA in Kumasi on Sunday.

He said the poverty level among Muslims was high and attributed this to the failure and inability of some Muslim parents to give quality education to their children.

Mr Musah advised Muslims to raise the level of education of their wards, especially the girl-child, to enable them play positive role in the socio-economic development of the country.

Madam Bintu Farizana Ibrahim, District Chief Executive for Wenchi in the Brong-Ahafo Region, commended the GMSA for educating Muslims in the spread of Islam and urged the members to educate women in Muslim communities on issues like violence against women, empowerment of women, female genital mutilation and their rights and responsibilities. Mr Mohammed Salis Shadow, the new President of the association, promised to work harder to promote the welfare of the members. Other executive members are Mr Haruna Ibrahim, Vice-President, Mr Mohammed Sheesu Ishaq, General Secretary and Mr Abubakar Alheri, Organiser.
