NGO supports Lighthouse Children's Home in Cape Coast

Cape Coast, Dec. 24, GNA - Takoradi International Company (TICO), an organisation which has invested in the Aboadze Thermal Power Plant, on Tuesday presented items valued at 15 million cedis to the Lighthouse Children's Home at Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast.

The items comprised bags of rice, cooking oil, bread and oats, fruits, a gas cooker and a refrigerator.

Mrs Becky Pendergrass, who made the presentation on behalf of Mr Marshall Pendergrass, General Manager of the company, said it formed part of TICO's community development services and was impressed about the manner in which the orphanage was being run.

She said the company had already invested 110 million dollars in the Aboadze Thermal Plant and had plans to make available another 120 million dollars towards its expansion.

Mr Galen Weber, Director of the orphanage, who received the items thanked the donors and stressed that the home needed the support of the community at large to ensure its success.

He said the orphanage, which was started in April last year with three children from deprived homes, now had 26 children among them, orphans and children from destitute homes in and around Cape Coast. He said the children between eight and 16 years had been enrolled in a private school in Cape Coast and expressed the hope that they would study and rise to the university level.
