NGO cleans up Aboabo-Number-Two

Kumasi, Jan. 1, GNA - An environmental NGO, African Neighbours Foundatio= n, on New Year day organized a massive clean-up exercise at Aboabo-Number-Two, Kumasi, to rid the area of filth. The organizers, joined by religious and community heads, swept the streets; cleared gutters choked with silt and removed garbage from unauthorized disposal sites. The Foundation, additionally presented plastic waste collection bins to some Mosques in the area.

These included the Sheikh Abul Wadu, Darul Hadis, Sakafia, Accra Town and Aboabo Station mosques. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Miss Mamata Musah Sheriff, the Chief Executive of the NGO, said their goal was to help to improve environmental sanitation in the Kumasi Metropolis. She expressed concern about poor sanitary conditions at Aboabo and said no effort should be spared to address the problem and prevent diseases= .. She appealed to the residents to change their attitudes towards the environment and desist from unhealthy practices.

Miss Mamata said her organization would work with other NGOs and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to promote environmental cleanliness. Sheikh Abdul Wahid Harun, Deputy Imam of Hadis Mosque, thanked the NGO for its initiative and pledged their support.
