NADMO presents relief items to disaster victims

Krutu(BA), May 20, GNA - The National Secretariat of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has presented relief items valued at GHC15,000 to some bush fire and rainstorm victims in Nkoranza South District of Brong-Ahafo Region. They included 25 bundles of roofing sheets, 400 blankets, 200 plastic buckets, 600 plastic cups and plates, 50 bags of rice and five bales of second hand clothing. The beneficiaries are Krutu, Nkwabeng, Bredi Number Two, Asuoso, Pruso and Ayerede, all farming communities. Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South and Deputy Minister of Energy, who presented the items, expressed appreciation to NADMO for supporting the victims. He expressed concern about the annual incidence of bush fires and cautioned the people to be careful in handling naked fires during the dry season. "Bush fires are man-made disasters that could be controlled," he said and urged the people to plant trees at the outskirts of their communities to serve as wind breaks. Mr Benson Boadum Acheampong, Nkoranza District Coordinator of NADMO said more than 1,000 people were displaced in both Nkoranza North and South Districts as a result of bush fires and rainstorms last year. He advised the people to guard against practices that could cause domestic and bush fires.
