Mpohor Wassa East Assembly launches sanitation model

Daboase (W/R), Dec. 6, GNA - Mr Edward Tawiah Amprofi, Mpohor Wassa East District Chief Executive, on Wednesday launched the district's waste and sanitation model of the Youth Employment Programme at Daboase. Twenty tricycles and other logistics to be used by Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a private waste collection and disposal agency in the district, were also inaugurated at the function.

Mr Amprofi said the primary purpose of the Youth Employment Programme was to provide employment to youth. He said the district had established four out of six modules of the Youth Employment Programme, which covers education, waste and sanitation, health and agriculture. Mr Amprofi said the remaining two models, the trade and vocation and community protection models would soon start. He said 227 community-teaching assistants had been employed in the district under the education model, 20 people for waste and sanitation, 30 Auxiliary Health Assistants for the health sector and 720 for the Youth and Agriculture module. Mr Amprofi said 15 per cent of the District Assembly Common Fund was being used for the Youth Employment Programme and that Zoomlion would pay the salaries of those employed under the waste and sanitation model.

Mr Nathaniel Annor Asante, District Coordinator of the Youth Employment Programme, said the waste and sanitation must be a national priority.

Mr Asante said the district assembly was working to ensure a fully integrated waste management system that is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
