Mpatase calls for social amenities in their community

Mpatase (W/R), May 3, GNA 97 The Mpatase Unit Committee in the Ahanta West District has appealed to the government to help provide them with basic social amenities.

Mr Augustine Andoh, Secretary of the committee who made the call, said the community needs potable water, a library, community shed and drainage to avert floods in the rainy season. Mr Andoh made the appeal during a meeting with the Conservation Foundation, a non-governmental organization committed to the decentralization concept at Mpatase.

He attributed the poor performance of the students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to the absence of a community library and called for vacation classes to enable students study during their leisure time.

"The poor results by the students in this community in the BECE have prevented students in the town from gaining admission to senior high schools in the area," he said.

Mr Kingston Kwamina Ocran, a stool clerk, commended the NGO for educating them on the decentralization concept saying it had helped the community to understand the roles of the chief, unit committee members and the members of the community. 3 May 11
