Moslems in Saltpond defy heavy downpour to celebrate Eid

Saltpond (C/R), Oct. 25, GNA - The Moslem Community in Saltpond on Monday defied a heavy downpour to observe open air prayers to mark the end their month-long Ramadan fasting.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Chief Executive (DCE) and Mr Michael Paintsil, Assemblyman-elect for Kuranchikrom-Eguabado electoral area of Saltpond joined the Moslems in the prayers.

Addressing the Muslims the DCE commended them for their perseverance and determination to worship Allah under all circumstances. Mr Quainoo-Arthur urged them to sustain the unity and peace with which they celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr festival and use it to promote the development of the Zongo Community.

He appealed to them to give attention to personal and environmental sanitation to get rid of diseases brought about through filth. The DCE advised them to register with the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to have access to quality healthcare at affordable cost.

Mr Paintsil urged them to use the spiritual exercise they had gone through to enhance their way of living.

The Assemblyman-elect advised them to take advantage of the Capitation Grant to give their children secular education. Alhaji Iddrisu Ibrahim, Chief Imam, led them in prayers for the prosperity of the nation and also thanked God for protecting them during the Ramadan fasting. They later paraded the principal streets of the town with brass-band music. The DCE donated rice and sugar to the Muslims on behalf of the government. 26 Oct. 06
