Mississippi University honours William Ankrah

Dayspring Christian University in Mississippi, USA, has conferred a doctorate degree on an Industrial labour Specialist, Mr Prince William Ankrah for his immense contribution in diverse fields of endeavour.

Mr Ankrah, 56, and General Secretary of the Ghana Mine Workers Union (GMWU), received the award at a ceremony in Accra for his philanthropic activities, creative mind, pre-eminent leadership in society, investment in the Kingdom of God, and continual maintenance of businesses in Ghana which have employed and fed many mouths.

Reading the University’s citation, the Convocation Orator, Mr Peprah Acheampong, described Mr Ankrah as a person with sound inclination for success, challenging initiatives, change management and development enthusiast, who believed in the notion that the 21st century leaders and managers required knowledge in emotional intelligence.

The concept of emotional intelligence, he added, would allow one to soberly reflect to be accommodative, tolerant and firm.

Mr Ankrah, a board member of the Industrial Global Union Federation in Geneva and currently pursuing a PHD in Organisational Development, holds a Certificate in Human Rights and Law from the UK; Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations specializing in Human Resource Management; and is a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development from the UK.

Speaking to journalists after his award, Mr Ankrah said in as much as recognition was good; he believed that “It is not degrees that rules the world, but something that adds up to knowledge base.”

To him, being ethical and building the right character and attitude in life were of great value and essence, because they helped people to see the relevance of addressing the ailing problems that confronted society and nations.

“Award gives you the challenge to do more and for me, I don’t get carried away.

The acronyms can be there, but the right thing is what you do right and making sure you are not corruptible or doing anything untoward to help society,” he said.
